“And indeed there will be time …
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions
And for a hundred visions and revisions
Before the taking of a toast and tea.”
– T. S. Eliot
Curiosity struck out the cat,
persistence assured him nine innings at bat.
And so we are driven to seek and explore
distant horizons and unopened doors.
Entranced with a view or beguiled by a face
we yearn for the things that elude our embrace.
Byways untrod and perspectives unseen,
the promise of “if” and of what might have been.
Desiring more than the world can provide,
the real and imagined are sure to collide.
Swinging for fences and tilting at mills,
our fanciful dreams are at odds with our wills.
Inventing God’s myths we ennoble our plight,
deify beauty, claim love at first sight.
Angels and serpents and forbidden fruit,
moral abstractions that fail to compute.
Trapped by the ego in prisons of thought,
rattling bars of I should and I ought …
The key to contentment hangs right within reach.
It doesn’t take daring to savor that peach.
Adjust your perspective and recast your view,
those fabled horizons arise within you.
Look past the mind to the place we begin.
Open the door, see the sunlight within.
